Mike Beato Background
Mike Beato is president of Beato Enterprises Inc., a technology communications company that he started in 1989. His company’s main focus is designing and developing website solutions for businesses.
Mike started his professional career in 1978 as a systems analyst with the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York. As a member of Kodak’s International Photographic Division, Mike traveled to many Kodak overseas offices in Europe, Latin America and the Far East, working on marketing software development, needs analysis, and user training.
Mike left Kodak in 1986 and moved to Buffalo, where he consulted as an IT professional at a Western New York advertising agency. He quickly lead the ad agency’s transition to the emerging world of digital design and publishing.
In 1987, Mike helped launch AdWorks Communications, a new state-of-the-art ad agency. After a year as Systems Manager, Mike took on the role of General Manager as well.
Mike left AdWorks in 1989 to start his own technology consulting company. He saw that other businesses needed help taking advantage of wide-ranging and fast-changing technology in their business communications.
Mike has been active in teaching others. He was a member of the Canisius College adjunct faculty for nine years, teaching classes in Communication and Leadership, and Digital Media Arts. Mike has also lectured on Digital Presentations at the University at Buffalo. In addition, he has shared his knowledge through numerous speeches, talks and seminars.
Originally from Fairport, New York, Mike received a degree in Information Systems Management from State University of New York, Buffalo State.
Mike is married and the father of two sons. He and his wife are very active in charitable endeavors in the Western New York community. He’s a competitive runner, participating in numerous races ranging from 5K to marathon distances.
Awards and Achievements
Named the ‘1996 David I. Levy Communicator of the Year’ by the Professional Communicators of Western New York. This prestigious award is given annually to honor the recipient for a distinguished record of achievement in communications.
Won awards for creative excellence from the Professional Communicators of Western New York.
Taught at Canisius College as an adjunct professor in the Communications Studies Department. He taught a graduate-level communication technology course in the Organizational Communication and Development graduate program for nine years.
Is an active professional speaker covering many technology and business topics.
Completed the 2011 University at Buffalo Citizens Police Academy, studying University Police operations. Topics included fire and first aid, emergency dispatch, bike patrol, crime scene investigation, recruiting, hands-on training in defensive tactics and a patrol ride-along.
Earned a Gold 2010 Phidippides Award from the USA Track and Field organization. This USATF award was inspired by the historic masters runner, Phidippides, and is awarded to members over the age of 40 through their participation in road races throughout the year.
Won the ‘Brainstorm Club Service Award’ in 2006 in recognition of achievements in furthering the activities and interests of the club.
Won ‘Best Show Book Ad’ at the Seventh Annual Awards for Creative Excellence by Brainstorm — The Communicators Club of Buffalo.
Taught a course in Digital Presentations at the University at Buffalo.
Served on the Board of Trustees for the Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, New York.
Directed the children’s religious education program at the University at Buffalo’s Newman Center, North Campus.
