I've been starting my New Year's resolutions on December 1st for years now.
Most people break their resolutions by mid-January. They begin motivated but then fall back into old habits. They become discouraged and eventually give up.
I learned something different.

December 1st gives you 31 days to build momentum. You're not fighting the holidays—you're using them. All that "new year, new me" energy? It's already there in December. The reflection, the planning, the sense of transition.
By January 1st, I'm not starting. I'm continuing.
The habit begins to develop. The resistance fades. What seems impossible on a cold January morning becomes manageable after you've been doing it for a month.
Take exercise. Instead of promising yourself a total fitness transformation on January 1st, start with just 10 minutes a day from December 1st. By the New Year, your body will be ready. The gym isn't daunting… it's just Thursday.
Or learning something new. Pick up that language app, start that online course, read the first chapter of that book you've been meaning to tackle. Thirty-one days of small progress beats one day of the best of intentions.
This year, pick one thing. Start on December 1st.
Your January self will thank you.
