The Town of Amherst Highway Department offers a free drop-off for electronic waste (e-waste) at their North Forest Road location.

If you have questions, please call the Highway Department directly at (716) 631-7117. 

They are open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. seven days a week.

  • IMPORTANT: You must be an Amherst resident to take advantage of their e-waste recycling service. 
  • The Amherst Highway no longer picks up TVs curbside, nor do they accept them on-site at the Highway Department.
    • If you have a television to dispose of, here’s an option: ATR (Advanced Technology Recycling) at 200 Fire Tower Drive, Tonawanda, NY 14150 (716-693-7779). They are open Monday thru Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Go to the Amherst Highway Department garage at 1042 N Forest Rd., Williamsville, NY 14221 and pull into the main entrance.

As you approach the end of the entrance road you’ll see a bright yellow sign: Report to Dispatch Before Dumping. Follow these yellow signs to the main dispatch building. There is no charge to drop off e-waste for Amherst residents. You’ll need to show them an ID before directing you to the nearby e-waste drop-off shed.


Place your e-waste items inside the clearly marked Electronics Recycling shed.

What kind of television is it?

Tube TV

Amherst Highway Department no longer accepts tube TVs at their drop-off location. And you cannot leave tube TVs on the curb with your regular trash. What to do? Call Advanced Technology Recycling (ATR) in Tonawanda at (716) 693-7779. They’re located at 200 Fire Tower Drive, Tonawanda, NY 14150.

Flat Screen TV

Take your flat screen TV to the Amherst Highway Department during the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM. Stop at the dispatch office where they’ll check your ID to make sure you’re an Amherst resident. Then proceed to the drop-off area. If you have questions, call (716) 631-7117.
