Firms shouldn’t hide their use of AI: showcase it in job titles

Here's what's happening: firms are using AI but keeping quiet about it. Ad agencies, law firms, consultancies, accounting practices – they're all worried clients will think they're cutting corners.

This is backwards. AI isn't a cost-cutting tool – it's a competitive advantage. The firms that figure this out first will win.

I get the fear. Clients think AI = cheaper = lower fees. But that's only true if AI just automates what you're already doing. The reality is different:

  • Ad agencies don't just speed up creative production – they're identifying audience insights and campaign angles that human analysis might miss entirely.
  • Law firms don't just speed up contract review – they can catch issues and precedents human lawyers miss.

  • Management consultants aren't just processing data faster – they're finding patterns that manual analysis would never uncover.

  • Accounting firms aren't just automating compliance – they're preventing problems before they happen.

The smart firms will get ahead of this conversation before competitors force it. One way? Put AI right on the org chart.

Below are some suggestions. And yes, some of these titles imply big organizations with lots of hierarchy. But mid-size firms, small practices, and even solo consultants/freelancers can adapt these. The point isn't the org chart – it's the signal.

CAIO - Chief AI Officer

Executive Level (Vision + Leadership)

  • Chief AI Officer (CAIO) – Sets overall vision, manages risk/ethics, aligns AI with business goals.
  • Vice President of AI – Senior role to scale AI practices across departments; ensures it's fully embedded.

Strategic Level (Direction + Integration)

  • Head of AI Strategy – Creates adoption roadmap, identifies revenue opportunities, and directs implementation.
  • Director of AI Innovation – Scouts, pilots, and tests new AI tools; reports on value vs. hype.
  • AI Strategy Lead – Client-facing strategist who shapes service delivery and client solutions with AI.
  • AI Transformation Manager – Guides change management, training, and cultural adoption across the organization.

Hands-On Level (Execution + Creative/Tech)

  • Generative AI Specialist – Builds prompts, workflows, and repeatable processes with AI.
  • AI Solutions Architect – Designs and integrates the technical AI stack with existing systems.
  • AI Legal Analyst – Specializes in AI-powered contract review, legal research, and compliance monitoring.
  • AI Content Strategist – Focuses on AI-driven content creation, analysis, and client communication.
  • AI Strategy Consultant – Develops AI-enhanced analytical frameworks and client recommendations.
  • AI Compliance Specialist – Ensures AI-powered auditing, risk assessment, and regulatory adherence.

AI Freelancer Specialists

  • AI Prompt Engineer – Designs, tests, and optimizes prompts for consistent, high-quality AI outputs across client projects.
  • AI Workflow Designer – Creates custom AI-powered processes and automations for specific client needs and industries.
  • AI Training Specialist – Helps businesses implement AI tools, trains teams, and develops best practices for AI adoption.

Why this works

These aren't just job titles – they're statements. When prospects see "Chief AI Officer" on your team page, they know AI isn't some side project. An "AI Legal Analyst" tells them you're not replacing lawyers – you're making them better.

Your clients will figure out who's using AI eventually. The firms that own this conversation first – instead of getting caught playing catch-up – will win.
